How Hold & Spin Slots Work
The feature triggers when 5-6 special cash symbols land on the reels. All other symbols clear, and a respin counter — usually 3 — is set. Each spin either lands new cash symbols (which lock and reset the counter to 3) or hits nothing (which drops the counter by 1). The feature ends when the counter reaches zero or the grid fills.
Cash symbols carry a random value in stake multipliers. On feature end, every value on the grid is added up and paid as a single win. Fixed grand, major, minor and mini jackpots often sit above the highest cash values, triggered by filling the entire grid or landing specific jackpot symbols.
The mechanic's appeal is transparency: you can see exactly what you're chasing on every respin. Volatility runs medium to high depending on the trigger frequency and grid size, and providers publish trigger rates for most modern Hold & Spin releases.
