Bonuses where whatever you win is yours — no playthrough, no rollover, no hidden multiplier. The catch is usually the bonus size, the max cashout or the game weighting.
A no-wagering bonus (sometimes marketed as "0x", "1x", "wager-free" or "cash spins") is a promo where any winnings from the bonus are treated as real cash the moment they hit your balance. You don't have to play through a multiple of the bonus before withdrawing.
It sounds too good, and it usually comes with trade-offs: smaller headline amounts, a hard max-cashout cap (often £50-£100 on free-spin equivalents), a shorter validity window, and stricter game weighting so the bonus can only be played on selected slots. Read the terms — the wagering line is only one of six that matter.

Five checks. First, the true value: a £10 no-wagering bonus with a £50 max cashout is worth more in expectation than a £200 bonus with 40x wagering. Second, the max cashout — the ceiling on what you can withdraw from bonus winnings regardless of how much you win. Third, the game weighting: many no-wagering bonuses are slots-only and exclude jackpot titles. Fourth, the min deposit and whether the offer stacks with your normal deposit. Fifth, the expiry — no-wagering bonuses often expire within 24-72 hours to force use.
A no-wagering bonus is instant cash. A low-wagering bonus (20x or below) still requires playthrough but is realistically clearable inside the validity window. If you are a value-focused player, no-wagering is almost always better per pound; if you want a bigger bankroll to play with, low-wagering gives you more spinning time.
The three formats you'll see: (1) wager-free spins on signup — usually 10-50 spins on a specified slot, winnings paid as cash; (2) daily/weekly wager-free spin drops for existing players as loyalty rewards; (3) cash-back paid as wager-free — some casinos convert their weekly loss cashback into no-wagering credit instead of bonus funds, which is a genuinely player-friendly implementation.
The UKGC's 2022-2024 bonus reforms pushed operators toward simpler, more transparent offers. No-wagering promos are compliant by default because there's nothing complex to disclose. Expect to see more of these at UKGC-licensed casinos as the market matures. Read our wagering requirements guide for the maths behind the trade-off.
