Ireland's gambling landscape is undergoing its most significant overhaul in nearly a century. The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) became operational in March 2025 under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, replacing the decades-old framework previously administered by the Revenue Commissioners. From February 2026, the GRAI began accepting licence applications for remote and in-person betting operators, with online licences set to be issued from July 2026.
The new regulator can impose fines of up to twenty million euros or ten per cent of turnover for non-compliance. Until the transition is complete, many Irish players continue to use UK-licensed and EU-licensed operators, which have long served the Irish market.
What Irish Players Should Look For
Irish players should look for casinos that accept EUR as a primary currency and offer locally popular payment methods including Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Skrill, and Paysafecard. Revolut and other fintech apps are increasingly common among Irish depositors.
